Place of event: Hongsa, Laos
As a living icon with important symbolic connotations and historical associations in Laos, the elephant is an animal dear to the hearts of the Lao People. In response to the growing threat to this amazing species, the annual Elephant Festival is organised to raise awareness and protect the Asian Elephant as a vital part of the cultural and natural heritage of Laos.
February 20th: Opening Ceremony including Elephant Procession, Elephant Bath, Elephant Bacci Ceremony, Elephant of the Year, and much more.
February 21st: Elephant of the Year Procession, Elephant Show, Monks Blessing, Lao traditional dance show and much more.
Getting There: Take a boat along the Mekong River at 8am from Luang Prabang to Tha Souang Pier, and from there a taxi drive (1 hour) to Hongsa. You should arrive about 6pm.
