Vanvisa guesthouse is in a family home dating from the 1960s, built in the charming Art Deco style popular in that era. The welcoming lobby of the high ceilinged building is swathed in bolts of cotton and silks, some plain and natural and some with intricate patterns. Woodcarving and homemade herbal and fruit teas are on sale in the front room, which is crammed with interesting artefacts alongside family photos, antiques and crafts from around Laos.

Still a home to all generations of the family, Vanvisa is also the setting for weaving and cooking classes which Mrs Vandara holds by arrangement. Testament to Vandara's culinary interests, her homemade teas and fruit drinks refresh guests in the summer and warm them in the winter. This peaceful, individual guesthouse offers visitors a very special experience of Luang Prabang.
