"Although most of the trip was excellent, our 5 night stay at The Chang Heritage Hotel was not. There were many things about the hotel that were annoying but one event causes me to ask for a refund. On 14 March 2009 the city of Luang Prabang scheduled a power outage from 7:00 a.m until 6:00 p.m. The hotel did not communicate with its guests that this was going to happen even though other businesses in the city knew about the planned outage. I understand that the hotel cannot be held responsible for power outages but what I find inexcusable is that the water at the hotel only flows if there is electric because there is an electric pump that provides the water to the rooms. During the power outage there was no disruption of the city water supply and other hotels, including the sister hotel Chang Inn, and local businesses had water. Unfortunately the Chang Heritage designed their water system to require electric to function. No attempt was made to connect a generator in order to provide water. The electric was restored at about 7:00 p.m. which meant that during the 12 hour outage it was not possible to shower, brush one’s teeth or even flush the toilet. The staff was very apologetic but apologies are not sufficient. This was the most expensive hotel in our travel and it was the worst in terms of level of service and comfort."

"The hotel itself was beautiful. Guestrooms are of good size. Lighting in the room, especially the bathroom needs improvement. Impossible to read in bed. Impossible to do any make-up even during the day! Simply too dark. For the rate we paid (over USD200 a night), somehow we expected a bit more such as better pillows, daily fresh fruit (we only got the welcome basket once throughout the 3 nights stay, breakfast was rather poor with limited choices and quality, no presence of the management."

"Very poor hot water supply, unable to offer the basic services I would expect of a superior level (by cost) facility - no daily paper, noisy accommodation, lack of light in the bathroom, no laundry, extremely dim interior. No electrical adapters.
I do not consider this to be good value fo money."

"While premises are really beautiful and staff very friendly, charming and eager to help, I am sorry to say that the place is way overpriced. It was very noisy during the day (also Saturday and Sunday) with the construction next door and at night; with room neighbours playing loud music at 2:30am and the neighbour's dogs constantly barking. Upon check-out the creditcard machine was not working forcing me to use my well-budgeted cash I needed during subsequent work in remote areas. And I'd appreciate if in-room supplies like mineral water and consumable toiletries would have been replaced. Thank you for the opportunity to comment."
