Sunset Dinner Cruise

Duration: 1 day(s) - Location: Luang Prabang

One of the major attractions in Luang Prabang is the confluence of two rivers the Nam Khan River and the mighty Mekong River. On this Sunset dinner cruise you will have the opportunity to enjoy a trip on a traditional Lao river boat that has been widened at the beam to accommodate 10 four-top tables.

The cruise embarks daily at 5:30 pm, motors downstream to moor in front of Vat Chomphet and Phousi Mountain and nearby a traditional village for dinner and music, and returns at 9 pm. On this cruise, traditional Lao dancers from nearby villages perform age-old sets that include interpretations of the royal ballet, rural life, folk tales and legends.

But it’s the river itself that’s the overwhelming experience. The coffee-coloured Mekong channels between ridges that Lao folklore understands as the recumbent bodies of men and women whose fate has won them eternal rest along these banks. Spindly teak trees shoot profusely from the flanks, fluttering skimpy green foliage. From splinters of boats, fishermen play out skeins of diaphanous nets, buoyed by plastic water and soda bottles.
