Ms Oui, Manager

You will be cared for by three sisters all who grew up in this former family home in Ban Kily. Oot, Oet, and Oui will provide you with friendly and personal attention you need from reception to creating a sumptuous early morning breakfast. All three are eagerly learning English and will offer their best to help you find your way about the town.

Caring for destination
This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Society and Environment.
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
A family-run business Oui's Guesthouse is co-owned and run by a Western / Laos partnership comprising Roger, his wife Oui and her two sisters. Oui and her sisters grew up in the home they now run as a guesthouse. Oui's Guesthouse is very much involved in sustainable tourism initiatives apart from the obvious local ownership.

Society
Oui's Guesthouse support the Stay Another Day initiative and a smoke free Luang Prabang. In addition, Oui's actively encourages you to immerse themselves into local community with advice and guidelines on experiences including traditional Laos sauna and alms for the monks at sunrise.

Bear in mind that Oui and her sisters speak little English. You may not receive as much information as you might hope from such a small locally-owned guesthouse. However, like any tourism experience, what you get out of it is a matter of what you put in and Oui and her sisters do go out of their way to make you feel part of the place.

Environment
They have keypad-operated electricity units and a mains switch outside the bedroom. They also encourage guests to conserve as much electricity as possible.

"luang Prabang is such a fantastic city and it will become more popular in the coming years, I am sure. Therefore it´s very important to take environmentally mesurements"
Mr. Henrik Rohde T. - Denmark on 30/03/2009
"I would like to see more visible signs of caring for the destination. I think the sisters of this guesthouse are too humble and do not promote what they do, although we did witness the care they took in the immediate area around the guesthouse."

"We really enjoyed our stay at Oui's. They were very accommodating, provided a good breakfast and the location whilst quiet and peaceful, is only a short walk into the main street. drinking beer on the balcony overlooking the river was a highlight! would recommend!"
Ms. Amy M. - Australia on 23/04/2010
"Oui's was great. The sisters who own it are very sweet, they make a great breakfast every morning, and were very welcoming. It felt like I was staying at a relative's house. Very pleasant. :)"
Ms. Megan R. - United States on 19/04/2010
"No internet on site, Staff are the most unwelcoming people we found in Laos! Room small and very hot humid and airless. bathroom small and wet! Overpriced...there is much better in Luang Prabang."
Mrs. Susan W. - United Kingdom on 23/03/2010
"Oui's Guesthouse was absolutely charming. Oui and her sisters care for your every need. The breakfasts were delicious and I loved having a choice of muesli and yogurt for breakfast. Our room was very clean and comfortable. I loved the location with its view of the river. It was nice to be a few blocks away from the main street and noise."
Ms. Frances F. - United States on 03/03/2010
"Oui's guesthouse is quiet, comfortable and completely charming. Oui, her sisters and all staff were friendly, helpfull but not intrusive, we had a wonderful time and will stay with Oui if we get the chance to visit Luang Prabang again."
Mrs. susan k. - United Kingdom on 09/02/2010
"Room with no cupboard; Due to the small size of the bathroom, impossible to have a shower withour flooding all the bathroom.
Very good breakfast"
Mr. bernard o. - France on 31/01/2010
"Very quite, clean guesthouse, just 5 min walk to one of the temples, about 10-15 min walk from the center with restaurants, nightlife."
Mr. Jacek K. - Poland on 15/01/2010
"Oui's guest house is in a GREAT location, right on the river on a quiet street. It looks and feels new. It is quite small but charming. The staff was available and helpful. Breakfast was good and they sent us to a good tour company down the street where we got exactly what we wanted in terms of transportation to the falls without any tour guide or otherwise "touristy" extras. They also arranged transport to the airport which was reliable and cheap. There were many great restaurants/shops within short walking distance. The only word of caution is that the stairs to the upper level rooms are VERY steep and slippery. We are fit and (relatively) young and had trouble getting our bags up with out help. Every time I went down the steps I worried about slipping a falling. Also, tuk tuk drivers at the dock don't know where it is...would be nice to have a copy of the name and location written in Lao available for tuk tuk drivers.

Would definately recommend to friends/family."
Ms. Alex C. - United States on 12/01/2010
"Excellent breakfast included. Very pleasant if somewhat reserved reception."
Mr. Jerry B. - Canada on 11/01/2010
"Great guesthouse. Would recommend to anyone wanting to visit Luang Prabang. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The guesthouse is a bit removed from the main stream, but can easily walk to centretown. A more peaceful environment which is what I wanted, and was very much appreciated. Thank you Oui."
Mr. Michel G. - Canada on 11/12/2009
"Accommodation was very comfortable and clean and staff were very friendly and helpful."
Mrs. Joanna M. - New Zealand on 31/08/2009
"Once at the hotel everything worked out smoothly. Locals were very friendly and helpful, even if they could only speak very basic English. Breakfast was also good."
Ms. Camila H. - Germany on 10/05/2009
"Oui's Guesthouse is a pleasant place. In a quite location near Nam Khan River but not far away from all sights of the village.
We enjoyed our stay there."
Mr. Klaus M. - Germany on 05/05/2009
"Very friendly staff. They couldn't have been more helpful. Hotel looks over cultivated fields and the smaller of the 2 rivers. Luang Prabang is not a large town and can easily be explored from this very pleasant base."
Mr. Richard V. - United Kingdom on 28/04/2009
"Friendly staff, great location, clean but rather small room. Cosy patio on 1st. floor."
Mr. Henrik Rohde T. - Denmark on 30/03/2009
"We stayed 3 nights at OUI's Guest House in Feb 09 and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The room was excellent and the staff were delightful, particularly the lovely lady who runs the place. Location is not ideal as it is a 15 minute walk to the main street and the night market, but this does have the advantage of making for a quiet stay. We stayed in 5 different hotels and guest houses in Laos and this was definitely our favourite."
Mr. Ian Y. - United Kingdom on 06/03/2009
"An excellent location in a quiet street close to the main area. The rooms were clean, we stayed in two different ones, as we left and came back after doing an Elephant Park tour. They offered the best laundry service in Asia we have experienced and they serve the BEST BREAKFAST ever, with a focus on organic produce. A great place to stay."
Ms. Yvette H. - Australia on 01/03/2009
"We found the owners and staff at this guesthouse very reserved, which actually came across as being unfriendly. Noone ever seemed to be at the reception desk, so it was difficult to ask for information or help.
The bedroom was very basic and the shower system in the bathroom particularly annoying as every time one had a shower the toilet and toilet paper and anything else in the bathroom got soaked.
Everything seemed to need some maintenance - the shower door creaked very badly, a drop of oil would have solved it immediately and in one of our rooms the bedside light did not work. There were also cockroaches in the bathroom and bedroom.
We actually chose the guesthouse because it was advertised as being in a quiet location, being a good walk from the town centre, but it actually proved to be the noisiest hotel we had stayed in, in both Cambodia and Laos. We had paid for a Double Superior Room and we certainly had double the noise! There is a Lao disco about 50 metres from the guesthouse and the very, very loud music, especially the boom of the bass, kept us awake until the early hours. We were extremely annoyed about this and would have moved hotel if we had not already paid. We did stay in another room and the music was just as loud.
This was the worst place we stayed in during our visit to Cambodia and Laos and did not feel that it was good value for money and would not recommend it to people."
Mrs. Carol-Ann H. - United Kingdom on 24/02/2009
"For those who like quiet residential, we really recommend this place. It is so relax especially terrace on the second floor. We lay down, chat, read and looking at Khan river. Eventhough it locates in residential but in a minute walking can reach the restaurant & shops. These 3 sisters are polite and nice. We stayed for 3 nights. Rooms are clean, good bedding. Unfortunatly, we went on Makha Day, monks pray quite loud whole day but we can accept that. One night, we came back midnight. After we parked our car, she opened the door and welcome. Best recommend."
Ms. Vipasiri P. - Thailand on 15/02/2009
"Oui's GH is friendly place a little outside the main happenings. I liked to stay in second floor quiet room looking the backyard without any view. Nothing else to complain."
Mr. Erkki R. - Finland on 28/12/2008
"my only dissatisfaction was with the 'wet' bathroom, i.e. the shower area was not blocked off from the rest of the bathroom, thus wetting nearly the entire bathroom including the toilet whenever anyone has a shower.

perhaps a lesser 'complaint' is that the wooden ceiling of the lower floor appears to be directly the floor boards of the rooms above, which makes footsteps, furniture movement, etc loudly audible to groundfloor occupants.

you may also wish to tell oiu the owner that i think there is something amiss with her toilet plumbing!

tq. eng."
Mr. Eng T. on 19/12/2008
"Lovely guesthouse on the quiet side of the river. Oui's family looked after us really well and the breakfast was really good!"
Mrs. Kathryn P. - Australia on 15/12/2008
"It was just what we wanted. Very peaceful and lovely setting overlooking the River Khan. The whole family were just wonderful and Oet's breakfasts were yummy. It was also great to be able to walk to the main street of Luang Prabang and to the Mekong (just around the corner) which we did several times. Staying for 8 nights at Oui's Guesthouse speaks for itself!! 2 bottles of water everyday, fresh towels and the other little extras were all appreciated."
Mrs. Judith S. - Australia on 12/09/2008
"There is nothing wrong and much that is right with Oui's Guesthouse. I have no other places in Luang Prabang to compare it to but would not hesitate to stay there again. I much enjoyed having a beer on the balcony overlooking the Nam Khan. "
Mr. Jay S. - US Minor Outlying Islands on 22/07/2008
"We stayed here for 5 nights May 2008. Great little guesthouse which was spotlessly clean. (cleanest on our trip so far!) If staying get a room up stairs as the balcony overlooking the river is great to chillout on. Its in a great location - in the old Quarter but far enough away from most of the tourist activity to be nice and quiet. We would stay here again."
Mr. Martin C. - New Zealand on 12/05/2008
"Room was clean, comfortable, good value for the price. Lots of TV channels, good A/C, connection available for my laptop - all very much appreciated. Loved the location - quiet, nice view of the river, and within a few minutes walk of everything. Breakfasts were good, though they didn't always have everything listed on the menu. Not a lot of interaction with staff - they were unobtrusive, but could be found when needed for questions, etc. They forgot to have transporation from airport arranged for us as promised in an email, but it wasn't difficult to arrange it ourselves at the time. Overall, a good experience, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again."
Ms. jessica w. - United States on 27/04/2008
"I really enjoyed staying at Oui's Guest House. The service was great and I felt really comfortable there. The rooms were clean, the breakfast good and the staff were very friendly. Also the location is very god - it's central but very quiet.

I'm recommending it to my friends and I will definitely come back another time."
Mr. Julian P. - United Kingdom on 08/04/2008
"Oui's Guesthouse was great. My first night was in a downstairs room which was OK, but a little dark. I moved to a lovely upstairs room the following night for an extra $5. The shared verandah was a great place to chill out with a book and a beerlao. Although it's not as handy to town as other guesthouses, it more than compensates by being in a very peaceful area. Ahem, except for the barking dogs!"
