Travelling to Luang Prabang is hardly complete without paying a visit to Ock Pop Tok’s Living Craft Center. With its lovely spot on the banks the Mekong, the winds blowing down from Tibet offer the traveller the essence perhaps once experienced on the Silk Road. Looms built as replicas of those used for weaving centuries ago are used by local craftswomen to create some of the finest silks found in the world.
What is more, guests actually have the opportunity to learn this mode of weaving and can complete a project to take home. Natural dyes, silk and bamboo weaving and batik are all available as “hands on” experiences to be enjoyed at the Living Craft Center.
The Living Craft Center is now home to a delightful “boutique” guesthouse whose rooms feature the artisan handcrafts that make Laos the unique destination it has come to be known to be as a world class Asian travel destination. Four spacious rooms allow for a unique stay experience in Luang Prabang and a restful ambiance that comes from being on the banks of the ever changing Mekong River.
