Ban Lakkham Guest House

"My wife and I spent 4 days at Ban Lakkham Guest House and were generally disappointed by the place considering the price of the rooms.
We have paid 120 USD per night and at that price we were expecting good service and elegant rooms. Both were disappointing.
The first impression wasn't good as when you enter the reception area an old grumpy lady watching TV at max volume will make you feel that you have entered her place and that you are not welcome.
The room are ok but would have needed some refreshing. The room dor is open louver so there is no privacy and you can hear people next door in the toilet or the shower.
The front courtyard by the river could have been a nice spot for breakfast and a drink if it didn't look like a junk yard.
Although the people serving were willing to help, most could not speak English or French and it all seemed very unprofessional.
On the plus side, the building which is an old colonial house is nice and the location is perfect.
Generally I believe this would be a fine choice if rooms were at 40 or 50 USD. At 120 USD it is a rip off."

"We were disappointed because we expected a kind of 4-Star guest house.
We cancelled after one night, we hope that the verbal agreement with the agent (telef. to Vientiane) and the hotel owner to reimburse three nights of the 5 already payed will be realized.

"Staff was very friendly and tried to be helpful, but unfortunately I felt that they didn't really know how to run a hotel. My first room was so infested by mosquitoes that they upgraded me to an upstairs room which was lucky, since I think it would have been impossible to get any sleep in a downstairs room (at least not without earplugs). There was a lot of noise coming from the street late into the night and the phone in the reception kept ringing very loud in the middle of the night (nobody was there at the reception to pick it up) so in the end I had to go to unplug it! Also, my room wasn't cleaned once during my three-night stay which confirmed my impression that nothing is given automatically unless you ask for it (which applied to serving the breakfast too). Not too good for a place that charged me 75 USD a night - which is a fortune in Laos!"
